Nanny & Babysitter Verbs 1

Babysitting and childcare verbs for nannies and babysitters — the action words of childcare work.

Vocabulary in context

Childcare is an intensely active job — and describing that activity accurately in English requires a specific set of verbs that don't come up in general conversation. Swaddle, burp, soothe, stimulate, wean, monitor — these are the verbs of professional childcare, and they appear constantly in parent briefings, daily reports, and the instructions you receive when starting with a new family. This exercise builds that action vocabulary so that when a parent tells you how they'd like something done, you understand precisely what they mean — and when you report back on the day, they understand precisely what you did.
